Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Matt Duchene scored twice for his first career multi-goal game and Craig Anderson made 33 saves to record his third shutout of the season, as the Colorado Avalanche earned a 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.
Wojtek Wolski registered an empty-net tally for Colorado, which has won five straight and six of their last seven versus the Lightning. The Avalanche snapped a three-game losing skid.
"It's always great to get a win," Anderson said. "Just great for us to get back on a winning streak and get back to winning ways and I think this was huge for us, especially on the road."
Antero Niittymaki turned in a solid performance stopping 26-of-28 shots for the Lightning, who have lost five of seven overall.
"We had three early power plays and we didn't get anything accomplished," Lightning forward Martin St. Louis said. "That falls on me. I'm out there quite a bit. I wasn't sharp early on and that hurt the team."
Duchene opened the scoring 8:16 into the first period when his wrist shot from the slot squeezed through Niittymaki's pads.
Colorado then tallied on the power play at 13:38 of the second. Again it was Duchene doing the honors as he came down the right side and after having his initial shot stopped by Niittymaki from in tight, the center chipped the puck in to make it a 2-0 game.
Tampa had several opportunities to get on the board in the third period, but Anderson was magnificent throughout. Wolski then added an empty net tally with 14 seconds remaining.
